Camel wrestlers may have clinched state title

Gillette has likely wrapped up its 11th straight Class 4A state wrestling title in Casper.

The Camels have sent 10 wrestlers to Saturday night's finals and have six others vying for third-and fifth-place finishes in the afternoon session.

The Camels took a 79-point lead over Cheyenne East heading into the place matches in the afternoon, with 282 points. East has amassed 203 points, followed by Riverton in a distant third, 137.5.

Wrestling in championship matches Saturday night will be Trent Olson at 106 pounds; Taylor Jeffries at 113; Evan Smith at 120; Kris Miller at 132; Alex Laxcasse, 138; Dani Fischer, 145 (seeking his fourth straight state title); his younger brother Jordan Fischer at 152; Lukas Poloncic, 160; Taylor Bigelow, 170; and heavyweight Taylor Barbour.

Vying for third-place finishes are Deavon Mauch, 113; Austin Zigray, 126; Haydn Rawlings, 170; and Cameron Mock, 182.

Battling in fifth-place matches are Brady Vogel, 120 and Jace Jacob, 220.
