Charles Curtis Wood

Memorial services for Charles Curtis Wood, 77, of Gillette will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at the American Legion Hall, Gillette.
Burial will follow at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Mr. Wood died Feb. 12, 2013, at the Close to Home Hospice House in Gillette.
He was born Feb. 10, 1936, in Albany, Miss., one of seven children born to William Alfred and Wilma (Thatcher) Wood. They later moved to Reedpoint, Mont., where they raised their family.
Mr. Wood served in the Armed Forces as a Marine staff sergeant and served his country in the Korean War in 1952. After receiving an honorable discharge from the military, he moved to Louisiana for many years and lived in Oklahoma for two years while driving a semi hauling fuel to the Air Force base.
In 1984, he moved to Wyoming and married Dora Titus on Dec. 31, 1984. In Wyoming, he worked for 19 years driving truck for JWS. He retired as a truck driver and became a security guard at Coal Creek Mine and Wyodak energy plant.
He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing. On his many travels, he collected hats as a reminder of all the places he had been. Mr. Wood enjoyed spending time with his family and his 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Dora of Gillette; sons, Charles Wood Jr. of Gillette and James Titus of Gillette; daughter, Liz Kirschenmann of Ipswitch, S.D.; brothers, William of Missouri, Boyd of Washington, Bob Lee of Montana and Ervin Carol of Montana; and sisters, Ella May of Montana and Alice Pearl of Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Wilma Wood, his sister Viola Wood and brother Roy Wood.
