CASPER, Wyo. — A Wyoming company is considering construction of a project that would explore how to save energy generated from a wind farm in Platte County.
Winhyne Energy Group, based in Cheyenne, hopes to begin testing the nine-turbine wind project at a site near Guernsey by late 2014.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the company intends to use electricity from the turbines to power compressors. It would store compressed nitrogen in a pipeline system that could be used to power turbines during times of low wind.
Such a system would help to even out energy production from wind farms and allow energy to be stored until it's needed.
