Memorial services for Debra “Debbie” Marge McGillis, 49, of Sheridan, Colo., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernie Bishop of the Church of Christ officiating.

Ms. McGillis died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at her home of a heart-related event.

Ms. McGillis was born Oct. 3, 1963, in Gillette to Bernard “Red” and Delores “Dee” (Whisler) McGillis. Her early childhood was spent in Wyoming, Nebraska and Montana before returning to Gillette in 1969. She attended school in Gillette and graduated from Campbell County High School.

Ms. McGillis also graduated from Denver Technical College and worked for various companies in the Denver area that needed a quality computer programmer. She moved to Denver when she was 32 and had lived there since. She loved living in the Denver area and made several close friends.

She enjoyed traveling around the Rocky Mountain region and taking family and friends on pulse-pounding drives to show off her local knowledge. She was a unique spirit with a sometimes wicked sense of humor, an infectious laugh, a penetrating wit,and a big loving heart.

She is survived by her mother, Delores McGillis of Gillette; brothers, David McGillis of Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif; and Leonard McGillis of Gillette; two nieces; two aunts; two uncles; several cousins; and Devo, her beloved rescue dog.

She was preceded in death by her father, her paternal and maternal grandparents and aunts.

The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers. Donations will be given to various organizations that Mrs. McGillis was fond of, such as Freedom Service Dogs.
