Energy Bowl can make national news

For more than 60 years, the annual Gillette-Sheridan football clash has ranked among the top rivalries in Wyoming.
Now the annual Energy Bowl — which began in the early 1970s as part of that rivalry — has a chance to receive recognition in a USA Today contest.
The Energy Bowl has already been chosen as the best rivalry in Wyoming. Now it’s moved into voting at a regional level. It’s among 13 rivalries vying for recognition as the best in the West.
If the Gillette-Sheridan rivalry is named the best in high school football, the winning school will receive $5,000 and USA Today will cover a game live during the 2013 season, Camels coach Vic Wilkerson said.
“It’s kind of a cool chance for the Energy Bowl to get some national recognition, but we will need a lot of help to get it done,” he added. “Please encourage any people you know to go online and vote for the Energy Bowl between Sheridan and Gillette as the best rivalry in high school football.”
Rivalries in Oregon, Utah, California, New Mexico, Hawaii, Idaho, Washington, Montana, Arizona, Colorado Nevada and Alaska are also vying for the honor.
Votes are being taken online to determine the winner. Voting opened Wednesday and will close at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12
