From the Feb .13, 1941 News Record:
Authorization for the University of Wyoming to purchase 640 acres of land adjoining the state experimental farm east of Gillette became a reality with the signature this week by Gov. Nels H. Smith of House Bill No. 8. The university is thus empowered to purchase this land at a price not to exceed $6,500, making possible experiments in raising, feeding and breeding of livestock and for other agricultural purposes. The bill was introduced by Rep. A.B. Maycock and it is understood had the support of the entire Campbell County legislative delegation. The present farm, established 20 years ago, consists of 160 acres of which 10 is planted to trees and the remainder has been divided into plots for experiment in grain and forage crops.
From the Feb. 24, 1955 News Record:
A dozen uniform sized eggs are not an unusual thing to see but when they are all about the size of a pullet’s first production and come from a full-sized hen, that is unusual. Charles Stringer had a full dozen of the eggs, which weighed about 1 1/4 ounces each. He said that they came from a Barred Plymouth Rock hen which had been laying since last September. She just hasn’t laid them any bigger since she started. When asked if he gets an egg a day, Stringer remarked that he did, “Being only that big, she sure ought to lay one a day,” he contended.
From the Feb. 9, 1961 News Record:
The Gillette volunteer fire department made a flying sprint, but the cookies were burned! Fire Chief Charley Tyrrell reported that a trailer house full of smoke produced only an oven full of cookies that had caught fire last Tuesday at about 1:40 p.m.
