From the Feb. 27, 1941 News Record:
A pale sober man walked into the sheriff’s office in Worland and pleaded: “I want you to come out into the country and kill my dog.” An officer departed with the man. They walked into the country and found the dog, a large Newfoundland suffering from an incurable dog disease. Neither man spoke. The officer pulled his gun, fired, and the dog dropped dead. Without speaking, the men returned to the courthouse. The man extended his hand to the officer. “Thanks,” he said. The officer looked down at his hand. In it was a five-dollar bill. The man had gone.
From the Feb. 21, 1957 News Record:
A car driven by Carroll Beckwith of Buffalo fell through the ice at Lake DeSmet recently. The car plunged through a snow concealed crack near the south shore. Beckwith escaped by jumping out of the car. The vehicle was later pulled out of the lake but another person fell though the ice in an attempt to come to Beckwith’s rescue. Beckwith is the husband of the former Mabel Nichols of Gillette.
