From the March 26, 1940 News Record:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Senate today was pointed for what may be an epical fillibuster and political battle when the judiciary committee voted 12 to 4 to put the anti-lynching bill on the calendar. The measure would penalize peace officers for failing to protect prisoners from mob violence and would authorize compensation for estates of the victims if their death was due to negligence. As in past years, Southern Democrats and some of their northern colleagues are prepared to tie up the chamber indefinitely if the bill comes up for vote. This time, however, they face the threat of imposition of the gag rule, which would limit debate and force a vote at a specified time.
From the March 4, 1954 News Record:
The remains of nine people were taken from Gillette this week following the crash of a Western Air Lines Convair twin engine plane last Friday on the H.W. Keeline and sons ranch about 50 miles southeast of here. A scheduled Western Airlines flight between Los Angeles and Minneapolis, the plane had been radioed from Casper to continue on to Rapid City, S.D., due to storm conditions at the Wyoming city. Aboard the craft were three crew members and six passengers. The flight last contacted Casper at about 10:25 a.m. Friday as it reached Wright Junction, an airplane junction between Casper, Sheridan and Rapid City located about 35 miles south of Gillette on state Highway 59. The plane was at 17,000 feet when it radioed.
