Larry Gus Benedick, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan, Okla.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal, Kan., with the Rev. Andrew Wehling presiding. Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.

Visitation will be on from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Brenneman Funeral Home.

Mr. Benedick was born Jan. 10, 1932, in Stockton, Kan., the son of Virl Sheridan and Leta Adel (Merrill) Benedick. He attended Stockton schools.

In 1950, he married Betty Kirkhart. They had three children together and were later divorced.

On Dec. 26, 1985, he married Carol Jean (Coble) Ingels in Karnack, Texas.

Larry was a self-employed oil field consultant and was well known throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Wyoming. He lived several years in Hays, Kan., Gillette, Liberal, Kan., and most recently in Duncan, Okla.

He was a former member of the Paradise Masonic Lodge #290 in Plainville, Kan., and the Elks Lodge in Liberal, Kan.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Duncan, Okla.; his son, Ken Benedick of Bristol, Va.; his daughters, Vickie Schmidt of Gillette and Nicki Toth of Upton; stepchildren, Sherry Niefert of Duncan and Robert Ingels of McCook, Neb.; three brothers, Clayton Benedick of Syracuse, N.Y., George Benedick of Decatur, Texas, and Alan Benedick of Garden City, Kan.; a sister, Judy Nuss of Plainville, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter Susan Leatherman; and sisters, Donavene Krob, Bethel Krob and Joyce Cotten.

Memorial contributions for his granddaughter’s education fund may be sent in care of Carol Benedick at Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS 67901.

I had the pleasure of working with Larry in the early 70's at Gillette, and always found him to be a fair and fine individual.
