Larry Gus Benedick, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Duncan Regional Hospital, Duncan, Okla.

He was born Jan. 10, 1932, in Stockton, Kan., the son of Virl Sheridan and Leta Adel (Merrill) Benedick. He attended Stockton schools.

In 1949, he married Betty Kirkhart. They had three children together and were later divorced.

On Dec. 26, 1985, he married Carol Jean (Coble) Ingels in Karnack, Texas.

Larry was a self-employed Oil Field consultant and was well known throughout Kansas, Oklahoma and Wyoming. He lived several years in Hays, Kan., Gillette, Wyo., Liberal, Kan., and most recently, living in Duncan, Okla. He was a former member of the Paradise Masonic Lodge #290 in Plainville, Kan., and the Elks Lodge in Liberal, Kan.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Duncan, Okla.; his son, Ken Benedick and wife Charlie of Bristol, Va.; two daughters, Vickie Schmidt of Gillette, Wyo., and Nicki Toth and husband Tim of Upton, Wyo.; stepchildren, Sherry Niefert of Duncan, Okla., and Robert Ingels of McCook, Neb.; brothers, Clayton Benedick of Syracuse, N.Y., George Benedick of Decatur, Texas, and Alan Benedick of Garden City, Kan.; a sister, Judy Nuss of Plainville, Kan.; 13 grandchildren, Jory Schmidt, Stacey Slocum, Shauna Oleson, Amy Uhrich, Matt Benedick, Erik Toth, Logan Toth, Maci Williams, Faith Christine Leatherman, Karrie Neifert, Shannon Culverson, Jason Ingels and Michelle Ingels; and 19 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepdaughter, Susan Leatherman, son-in-law, Tom Schmidt and sisters Donavene Krob, Bethel Krob and Joyce Cotten.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel in Liberal, Kan., with Pastor Andrew Wehling presiding. Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.

Visitation was from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions for Faith’s education fund in care of Carol Benedick may be sent in care of Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.
