Makala Diggs leads Pronghorns to best ever finish

Makala Diggs became the second All-American in Gillette College cross country history, leading the Pronghorn women to their best finish ever on Saturday at the junior college national cross country championships in Ina, Ill.
Diggs, the freshman from Box Elder, Mont., placed 18th in the 295-runner field with a time of 19 minutes, 8.5 seconds to earn the Coaches’ All-American award. She averaged 6:10-minute miles on the 3.1-mile course on the Rend Lake Golf Course to finish in the top 25 Americans.
Reanna Jereb of Rock Springs was 26th with a time of 19:35.9 and Shadan Lafrance of Lame Deer, Mont., placed 33rd in 19:46.6 to help the Pronghorn women to an eighth-place finish in the 40-team field.
It was the best Pronghorn women’s finish in program history.
Pronghorn men
Freshman Mike Nelson of Cheyenne was two places away from Coaches’ All-American status, placing 29th on the five-mile men’s course in 27:09.3. 
Laramie’s Gabe Adams ran the race of his career, coming across as the second Pronghorn in 27:54.4 to help Gillette College to a 15th-place finish in the team standings. 
It was, however, the first time in Pronghorn history they have finished higher than South Plains Community College, which was 16th.
