Microsoft wants to expand data center

Posted 2/21/13

CHEYENNE — Microsoft already is looking to expand a data center it is building on the outskirts of Cheyenne.

The software giant announced the data center less than a year ago. Now the company is considering a more than $66 million addition to the $92 million project.

The Laramie County Commission on Tuesday voted to apply for a state grant to subsidize the project. The $2.3 million grant for Microsoft would come from the Wyoming Business Council.

The state already has approved two grants for the data center. The grants total as much as $10 million. The latest grant would help to offset the data center’s utility costs.
