Mead indicates he’s backing money for Madison project

Gillette can only be encouraged by recent comments from Gov. Matt Mead as he released an updated budget outlook. He’s known for more than a year that the fiscal picture for Wyoming — which once basked in budget surpluses — is gloomy because of a downturn in the minerals industry. It got even worse when the federal government cut off payments of debt owed to Wyoming for decades, and then capped any future payments in Abandoned Mine Lands money to which Wyoming is entitled.
