Woman convicted of cruelty wants more animals

BILLINGS, Mont. — A Ballantine woman convicted of aggravated animal cruelty after more than 200 sick and underfed dogs were seized from her property in July 2009 is arguing she can afford to care for more animals and needs 10 more goats to provide enough milk for herself and her animals.
Linda Kapsa told District Judge Susan Watters on Tuesday that her court-appointed attorneys didn’t adequately represent her and failed to object to the limit of three dogs, 20 chickens, 10 goats, three cats and two cockatiels she was allowed to own after her conviction.
The public defenders said they provided Kapsa with proper representation.
Kapsa also asked that she be allowed to bring home three dogs that were seized but haven’t been adopted.
Watters said she would issue a ruling later.
