Wyo. may allow electronic proof of auto insurance

CHEYENNE — Legislation awaiting Gov. Matt Mead’s signature would let drivers use their smartphones to prove they are insured if they are pulled over or involved in a crash.

Republican Sen. Charles Scott, of Casper, tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle he decided to sponsor the measure after learning many large insurers offer apps that display insurance information.

The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America says Wyoming is one of 21 states including Colorado that considered the change this year.
